About Amanda Jew

My international experience extends to both academic and professional experiences in Japan and in higher education. Both my experiences abroad and at US universities have driven me to address inclusion in study abroad through creative intercultural experiences. 

I am currently a Masters of Art Candidate in the International Education Management Program (IEM) with a focus on Japanese Language at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (MIIS) in Monterey, California.

Boston Program Coordinator

July 2021 - Present

  • Create and execute bi-weekly programs designed to develop students’ global mindsets and foster community engagement; build all programs within allocated budgets

  • Co-create and coordinate annual large scale events, with the goal of fostering collaboration and increasing engagement with the community

  • Market all programs and events, creating print and digital materials to promote awareness and increase event attendance

Assistant Language Teacher

  • Developed custom lesson plans for junior high school students in English as a Foreign Language, to ensure progress of each student based on individual areas of improvement

  • Created and led interactive programs and activities through English seminars and summer camps to create a cross-cultural environment for students to become global citizens

  • Crafted engaging programs to improve connections between the local and international community, as a District Block Leader appointed by the Prefectural Board of Education

  • Collaborated with Japanese teachers and professionals to organize local events expanding teaching beyond the classroom to the overall community

Consultation Project

This is a consultation project with the University of Redlands. We created a modular pre-departure orientation to provide a more accessible format for students. Attached is the presentation slide deck with an overview of the work my team and I did.

Japanese Writing Sample

This is a research paper I wrote about Overtime Work in Japanese Junior High Schools titled, 「学校教育現場での残業」. Attached is the full paper in Japanese.

Case Study

This is a case study I conducted titled "Role of Heritage Language Education for Nikkei in South America." It compares the Nikkei population in Peru and Bolivia by analyzing their culture and way of life. Attached is the case study document.

Website Creation Project

This is an example of a website I created. It is a training about trans* and non-binary students in residents life geared towards staff members. It is made in an escape room format to make it more engaging. Attached is the link to the website.
